Study on Duplex Stainless Steel Powder Compositions for the Coating of Thick Plates for Laser Beam Welding

Duplex stainless steels combine the positive properties of its two phases, austenite and ferrite. Due to good corrosion resistance, high tensile strength, ductility, it has multiple applications. But laser beam welding duplex changes balanced phase distribution in favor This results a higher vulnerability lower ductility. Herein, different powder combinations consisting nickel for coating layers by metal deposition (LMD) are investigated. Afterward, tracks welded, temperature cycles measured. The ferrite content is analyzed feritscope, metallographic analysis, electron backscatter diffraction. goal development mixture allowing microstructure two-step process, where first edges weld partners coated with LMD second those welded. identified pretests tested process energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Vickers hardness tests. resulting seams show homogenous seam similar base material.
